What is Sin?

What is sin? Sin is transgression of the law of God and is unrighteousness. Anyone who has heard the gospel of Jesus Christ knows we are to repent. Repent of what? We are to repent of sin, which is breaking God's law. Jesus Christ died to free us from being in bondage - a servant to sin.

1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

What is the opposite of sin? Love. Love is keeping the commandments.

Does it Matter if we Sin?

Does it matter if we sin? Adam and Eve sinned in the garden. With sin comes the consequence of the sin. Adam and Eve were put out of the garden for sinning against God (breaking God's command).

What is interesting to me is most (roughly 95%) of the "Christians" I've met don't know the definition of sin. Nor do they really like to think about it. And they don't even know the ten commandments. Nor are the commandments of God written on their heart and mind (they could not even quote or even summarize them all). Many who claim to be disciples of Jesus Christ don't know what the new testament is, nor that when Jesus Christ died he left behind his will (the law of God written on our heart and in our mind).

As a consequence of modern new-age "Christianity" preaching, most people who claim to be Christians don't know the definition of sin, the consequence of sin, don't care enough to change (as they are just following others instead of Jesus Christ), nor does it bother them (conscience seared) that they break the commandments of God and profane the sabbath and his holy days.

Does sin matter? Jesus Christ died for our sins. If we accept the blood of Jesus Christ for atonement, we must accept the law of God as good and perfect because the new testament is IN Christ's blood. Jesus said so. If we reject God's commands, we reject the blood of Christ and have no atonement for our sin. As a result, we will be judged by God because of our attempt to self-justify ourselves and be cast into the lake of fire.

I think sin matters. I study the 10 commandments and the rest of the Bible to know God and to appreciate his goodness in helping me. I believe the Bible's definition of sin and turn from sin (repent) to accept God's saving righteousness which comes through faith in Him.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
