Matthew 18:5-6 God's View

Mat 18:5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
Mat 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

  1. Did Jesus say that if you believed in him that you were now Jesus Christ?
  2. Was Jesus talking about receiving a little child who believes in him or someone who has been converted that believes on him?
  3. Have you ever been offended? Did you feel hurt?
  4. Does it comfort you that God views offenses this away?
  5. How scary would it be to have a millstone tied around your neck and be cast into the depth of the sea?
  6. Would you want anyone else to have a millstone tied around their neck and drowned in the depth of the sea?

My Thoughts and Opinions

It is clear that God is strongly against those who offend. If you gave me two choices and told the that one of them was to have a millstone hung around my neck, then that would be a big hint that it was something very serious. I don't think Jesus Christ was exaggerating here. It must greatly grieve God when people go around in a church slandering others without cause. These verses give me great hope when others have hurt me that God sees, knows and will judge everything.
