Sunday AM Meeting

As a child, I was taught the fundamental doctrine of 2x2ism, that is "Sunday Morning meetings in the home." This was a principal foundational doctrine which made us as 2x2s more righteous than other "heathen" who worshiped God inside buildings built for worship.

I was looking for scriptures where it says that Jesus instituted meetings in the home, but there are none by any stretch of the imagination.

Here is a verse where they were met in home for fear of the Jews (not because Jesus instituted this)

Joh 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

THE SABBATH IS THE LAST DAY OF THE WEEK

All caps is for emphasis, not to shout. Sabbath is from sundown to sundown. Evening and morning make up a day. (Gen 1:5, Gen 1:8, Gen 1:13, Gen 1:19, Gen 1:23, Gen 1:31). In the Gregorian calendar system, the Sabbath is Friday evening to Saturday evening.

Read it in the scripture:

Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

So when I write "sabbath", think the last day of the week, not the first day of the week

Comments:
  1. Jesus taught that we need to worship God, and not other men
  2. The apostles taught to worship God, and Him alone
  3. Jesus never taught as doctrine that people had to meet in homes or "Sunday AM meeting"
  4. The apostles never taught that you had to have Sunday AM meetings
Questions for 2x2s:
  1. If Jesus really taught that we had to meet on Sunday mornings in homes, why isn't it in the Bible?
  2. If meeting in homes on Sunday morning was a doctrinal issue, then why didn't the apostles ever teach it?
  3. Does it matter which day of the week people have fellowship?
  4. What is the point of making something a teaching if it isn't a Biblical teaching?
  5. Do you think that meeting in a home on Sunday mornings makes you more righteous?

Paul Preaching on Sabbath (last day of the week) in Synagogue :
Act 13:14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. Act 13:15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
Act 13:16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
Act 13:17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it...
Act 13:42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
Act 13:43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
Act 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
Act 17:1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
Act 17:2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Act 17:3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
Act 17:4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
Act 18:3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
Act 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
Act 18:5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
Lydia Saved and Baptized :
Act 16:12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
Act 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
Act 16:14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Act 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
Days when Disciples met:
Act 20:5 These going before tarried for us at Troas.
Act 20:6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
Act 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

I grew up in the Workers' Way and saw that the workers very softly and sweetly taught subtle lies in guile; I learned to associate "kindness" and "nice"-acting people with lies. I became confrontational to get answers. Now I'm learning to speak the full truth in love.
